Time Trial Cycling Coaching
Danny Archibald, 54, only took up cycling after the age of 50, but quickly became interested in seeing just how far he could develop. His goals centred around local time trials and improving his power and FTP, which made time trial cycling coaching a natural fit.
The challenge was building genuinely high-level cycling fitness despite coming to the sport later in life. Rather than treating that as a limitation, the coaching focused on creating a clear structure that allowed Danny to develop progressively and make the most of the training he was doing.
Each session had a specific purpose, but the overall plan still needed enough flexibility to adapt when recovery or the rest of life changed what was realistic. The important part was maintaining consistency over time rather than chasing individual hard sessions that looked impressive on paper but didn’t contribute to the bigger goal.
The result was a significant increase in performance, with Danny’s FTP rising to more than 300 watts. For someone who only began cycling after turning 50, it was a strong demonstration of how much development is still possible with focused, consistent training.
For Danny, time trial cycling coaching has been about finding out what he is capable of rather than placing limits on performance because he started the sport later. The focus has been on improving power, building sustainable fitness and turning that fitness into better performances against the clock.
