Maratona dles Dolomites Training
Brian Holmes, 39, is an amateur cyclist balancing riding with a busy working life and three young children. His big goal was the Maratona dles Dolomites, so training needed to build the climbing endurance and durability required for a long day in the Dolomites without assuming he had unlimited time to train.
That meant the plan had to fit around real life. A busy job and three small children can make consistency difficult, so the coaching focused on making the available training count rather than simply chasing more hours on the bike.
The structure was built around clear, purposeful sessions while keeping enough flexibility to adapt when family or work changed what was realistic. The aim was to keep Brian moving toward the demands of the event without turning the training plan into another source of pressure.
The result was completing the full Maratona dles Dolomites course — a significant achievement for an amateur cyclist fitting training around a very full life.
For Brian, coaching was about arriving at the event with the fitness and confidence to take on the full course, while still being able to be a parent, work and deal with everything else outside cycling.
