Race Across America Training

Alex and Jack Forster, 31 and 33, already had a strong endurance background before we started working together, with experience in events such as Mallorca 312 and Red Bull Timelaps. Their next goal was on a completely different scale: Race Across America training for one of the toughest endurance cycling events in the world.

Challenges

The challenge was fitting that preparation around two very busy lives. Alex had recently left the Royal Marines and moved into a full-time desk job, while Jack was running a successful gym business. Both also had young families, so simply increasing training volume was never going to be enough. The plan had to be highly structured, but also flexible enough to adapt when work or family commitments changed.

A big part of the coaching was helping them understand the bigger picture behind the training. They valued the accountability, knowledge and patience, but also the fact that the plan was personalised to them rather than built around an idealised week. Nutrition, recovery and mental preparation all became part of the process, not just the workouts themselves.

As the training progressed, both made large improvements in power across a range of durations. Their nutritional awareness improved, they lost weight and became mentally stronger — all important parts of preparing for an event as demanding as RAAM.

For Alex and Jack, Race Across America training was never just about riding more miles. It was about building the fitness, resilience and understanding needed for a huge endurance challenge while still making the training work around careers, families and real life.
